Before we know about the Gems Testing we should know a little about Gemstone. A gemstone is a piece of mineral crystal, in cut and polished form, is used to make astrological jewellry or general jewellry or other adornments. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewelry because of their luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value.
In other language a Gem or Gemstone, is a type of material that is capable of being cut and polished for use in jewelry or other ornamental applications. Gems are most commonly made of minerals. Minerals, as you might already know, are naturally occurring, inorganic, crystalline solids, of definite chemical composition.
Gemstone are characterized in terms of refractive index, luster, specific gravity, dispersion hardness, shapes, cuts, color, UV-florescence, cleavage and fracture etc. They may exhibit double or singlle refraction. Gems may have luminescence and a distinctive absorption spectrum. The presence of Minor flaws or Material within a stone may be as inclusions. We at Ananya Gems Lab test the gems thoroughly, based on the abobe parameters and issue a printed-copy of Gems Identification report or Gems Testing Cerificate. The Gems Identification Report contains all the specifications and parameter values.
Gems can be devided into two categories. First one is Precious Gemstones and second one is semi-precious Gems. Major precious stones are Diamond, Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, Jade and Pearl. Some other Gems like oriental catseye, and alexandrite can be put under Precious Gems. While Red Coral, Amethyst, Topaz, Tourmaline, Aquamarine, Quraz etc. can be categirized in semi-precious gemstones
Navaratna is a combination of nine precious gemstones (Ruby, Diamond, Blue Sapphire, Yellow Sapphire, Emerald, Red Coral, Pearl, Cat's eye and Hessonite) worn in a single ornament. Mostly people wear the navaratna ring in their finger.
